About EDAW2026

Eating Disorders Awareness Week (EDAW) is a national movement from February 1st to 7th each year, dedicated to raising awareness and fostering understanding about eating disorders while challenging the stigma and barriers that prevent access to care.

This year’s theme is “Health Doesn’t Have a Look”

We invite you and your community to challenge the harmful belief that thinness equals health. Messages rooted in diet culture, weight stigma, and healthism can negatively impact how people view their bodies and their relationship with food. These ideas don’t just cause individual harm – they are part of broader systems that unfairly judge, exclude, and marginalize those who don’t fit our society’s narrow appearance standards. Let’s work together to promote body respect, inclusion, and a more compassionate understanding of health.

About This Workshop

Body image is often a concern for people with eating disorders, and broader disordered eating, and can arise at any point in one’s life. The general perception that health has an appearance, societal norms around size, the impact of aging and hormonal changes, social media, and other contributing factors can all impact how we see -and feel about- ourselves.

Explore and practice tangible, practical tools in this one-time ONLINE, strategy-based group. Open to individuals 18+ across Canada, this professionally facilitated workshop promotes self discovery in a safe space, offering an opportunity to build on existing strengths while gently challenging fears, feelings, and beliefs about our bodies.

In this single session, 2-hour workshop, we will:

  • Discuss what body image is and how it contributes to our mental health
  • Explore factors that influence body image, including how the impact of major lifetime events (puberty, life changes, recovery, pregnancy, perimenopause etc)
  • Identify the role internal and external messages play
  • The connection between body image and exercise
  • Learn about strategies that help to improve body image
  • Look at creating a shift in our inner and outer dialogue
  • Have time for conversation after the presentation– bring your questions!
