Online Workshop:
Navigating Emotions & Meals During the Holidays
This ONLINE workshop is for individuals (18+) experiencing an eating disorder, disordered eating,
and/or anxiety around food, eating, and body image.
You do not need proof of diagnosis to enrol. This group is open to anyone impacted by disordered eating.
Meal times can be extremely difficult, not only for people experiencing an eating disorder or disordered eating, but for those supporting them as well; this can also be a time when emotions, like anxiety, feel especially strong.
In preparation for the holidays, join Registered Nurse Chantelle Jensen for this interactive presentation and facilitated discussion. This workshop will help participants plan, and feel ready, for whatever stressors may be encountered— both known and unknown!
This workshop will include:
- Brainstorming activities to help identify events and stressors that we may encounter (or have encountered in the past)
- Common concerns around the holidays
- Emotions that might be felt by people with eating disorders and caregivers eg. anxiety, fear, confusion
- Validation, fixing, and the difference between the two
- How to reduce conflict during meals and emotionally-intense times
- Triggers and how to manage them (as both the individual impacted and the person supporting them)
- Helpful language & tips
- Making a holiday plan, and how to cope
This one-time workshop was created to meet you exactly where you are. This welcoming and inclusive space is open to anyone navigating eating disorder recovery, or supporting someone navigating recovery, who is looking to connect, share, ask questions, and feel truly heard.
Come as you are. Bring your questions, your concerns, or just yourself.
PLEASE NOTE: This group is intended as support, and is not a substitute for treatment. We encourage you to speak with your Physician about treatment options specific to your circumstances.
EDSNA support groups are always:
- Professionally-facilitated by people with extensive backgrounds in eating disorders.
- Intended to support those wishing to continue on the path of recovery in a safe, nonjudgmental environment.
- Limited to a small number of participants to allow everyone to participate fully.
Individuals interested in participating DO NOT require proof of diagnosis. This group is open to those with all manner of disordered eating behaviour.
