About This Group

Join Registered Psychologist and Yoga Teacher Vanessa LaPrairie for 6 weeks in this online Trauma Informed Yoga series.

Trauma-Informed Yoga:

This 6-week Trauma-Informed Yoga series is designed to offer a supportive, safe, and compassionate environment for individuals who have experienced trauma. In each class, we focus on mindful movement, gentle breathwork, and grounding techniques, helping to reconnect the body and mind in a nurturing way. The sessions are structured to honor individual needs and personal boundaries, fostering a sense of empowerment and self-awareness. Whether you’re new to yoga or have practiced before, this series will guide you through a process of healing and self-discovery at your own pace.

Key aspects of the sessions include:

  • Safe Space: A trauma-sensitive approach where you are always in control of your body and practice.
  • Gentle Movement: A mix of restorative and accessible yoga postures to help release tension and promote relaxation.
  • Breathwork: Techniques to support emotional regulation and relaxation.
  • Mindfulness: Tools to stay present and grounded, helping to process emotions and restore balance.
  • Community: A group that honors each individual’s journey, fostering connection and support.

What to expect:

– A 75 minute Zoom session which includes a brief check in, followed by a one-hour
facilitator led trauma sensitive yoga practice, and a brief check-out.
–  The yoga component will include seated, standing, and reclined yoga forms. Your
facilitator will offer options and encourage you to find your version of the yoga form.
– You can choose to have your camera on or off during the yoga session. We ask that you
check in to the group with your camera on, then you are welcome to turn your camera off.
–  Your facilitator will ensure that participants are on mute during the yoga session. This is
to minimize distractions like background noises.
–  There will be some opportunity for conversation and sharing during the check-in and
check-out portion of the group. Primarily you will be focusing on your own embodied
experience of practicing yoga, a non-verbal process.

How to prepare:

-Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in. Layers can be handy. You might
choose to bring socks, a blanket, pillows or any other items for comfort, temperature, or
support.
– Choose a private space where you will practice trauma sensitive yoga. You can use a
yoga mat or even a towel. There is no special equipment needed to practice yoga – all
you need is YOU.
