Online Drop-in Support Group for Caregivers

Topic G: Shame & Stigma

This online drop-in group is suitable for parents, partners, friends, siblings, loved ones, and supporters of anyone with eating disorders.

About This Group

Join Registered Nurse Chantelle Jensen for this drop-in online support group that will discuss why there is shame and stigma surrounding eating disorders, both internal and external, and how it may affect caregivers.

Experiences of stigma can contribute to poorer psychological, economical, social, and physical outcomes for people experiencing an eating disorder. Caregivers may also feel the impacts of shame and stigma too, as they often feel blame or guilt for their loved one’s mental health concerns.

This group will include strategies for caregivers to help them combat shame and stigma, while also acknowledging that it is okay to feel like things are challenging.

EDSNA support groups are always:

  • Professionally-facilitated by people with extensive backgrounds in eating disorders
  • Intended to support those wishing to support someone through their path to recovery in a safe, nonjudgmental environment
  • Focused on fostering a sense of empowerment and hope
  • Focused on promoting self-discovery in a safe space
  • Limited to a small number of participants to allow everyone to participate fully
